Funding

VVOB is largely financed by the Belgian and Flemish Governments. In addition, VVOB regularly receives grants for specific projects from various institutional donors or we ‘pool’ our funds with theirs. Among others, we work or worked with UNESCO in Cambodia, BTC and DFID in Rwanda, the European Union and the ELMA foundation in Zambia, UNICEF and Save the Children in Zimbabwe, and IDB/SLO in Suriname.

For support to the continued development, implementation and evaluation of the School Leadership System, VVOB receives funding from the Belgian Government (Directorate General Development – DGD). For support to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Induction System for Newly Qualified Teachers, VVOB receives funding from the Belgian Government (Directorate General Development – DGD), and extra funding from the ELMA foundation.

Institutional partners

To ensure the sustainability of the programme, VVOB works with several governmental partners.

The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) aims to provide the citizens of Rwanda with equal opportunities to high quality education through world class learning facilities and renowned learning institutions.

The University of Rwanda-College of Education (UR-CE) is one of the six colleges of the University of Rwanda, created after the merger of all public higher learning institutions in Rwanda in 2013. UR-CE is the apex institution in teacher education with academic, assessment and certification of all teachers at all levels from primary to secondary school level.

The Rwanda Education Board is an agency of the Ministry of Education established in 2011. Its mission is to fast-track education development in Rwanda by enabling education sector growth. This involves working with and addressing the needs of schools of all sizes (Public, Private) and brings education on the same range as the East African Community.

Affiliations

There are also some organisations that we work closely with, as to enhance our programmes. These are not partnerships as the collaboration is not on a daily basis, but we can go to these organisations for input and advice on certain topics.

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African Non-Governmental Organisation working in 33 African countries to empower girls and women through gender-responsive education. VVOB and FAWE signed a five-year partnership in 2015, which focuses on quality education and good learning outcomes for all learners, gender-responsive pedagogy and school leadership, gender-sensitive teaching and learning materials, and joint engagement at national, regional and international levels for gender-sensitive education policies and practices.

The Rwanda Education NGO Coordination Platform's overall objective is to ensure that Member Organisations are better informed and coordinated, valuing complementarities and influencing sector policies and strategies by actively organizing open dialogue and shared learning. Through the Platform, Education NGOs and non-profits are able to effectively contribute to the evidence based policy making process the Sector.
