VVOB's Story in Rwanda
VVOB is a Belgian development organisation specialised in increasing the quality of education. We work in four continents in early, primary and/or secondary technical and vocational education. In these three subsectors, we focus on strengthening local education actors to enable them to improve the professional development of teachers and school leaders. This capacity building is a means to sustainable development and poverty reduction.
Since 2003, VVOB operations in Rwanda involve various aspects of education development, including: policy development, institutional capacity development, teacher professional development (pre- and in-service), curriculum development and sector coordination.
Donors and Partners
We operate largely with funds granted by the Belgian and Flemish governments. In addition, VVOB regularly receives grants for specific projects from various institutional donors or we ‘pool’ our funds with theirs.
Organisational Structure
VVOB employs more than 120 associates across 10 countries worldwide. Its head office is based in Brussels. In Rwanda, VVOB achieves its goals through:capacity development; support, coaching and guidance; a team of local and expatriate experts; and sector coordination.
Expertise in Education
In Rwanda, VVOB has for the past decade focused on promoting School Leadership in Rwandan Schools. Since 2014, VVOB Rwanda has been supporting pre-service teacher training for primary school teachers and this through the promotion of learner-centred pedagogy (LCP). Building on this work, VVOB, Rwanda Education Board and University of Rwanda College of Education plan to improve the link between pre- and in-service teacher training and this through the design of an Induction system for Newly Qualified Teachers.
